Sea Creatures

Today I didn't want to get up... I was so tired I just kept hitting the snooze button so on the bus I tried to take a nap on the way over to the National Museum of Marine Science and Technology. I really enjoy the bus rides because I can see all the beautiful landscape Taiwan has to offer. I have to admit though that I'm not really interested in fish very much because they really don't do much of anything. All they can do is swim and look interesting. Our tour guide was very nice though and told us that this particular institute had the most diversity of fish with a complete cycle of aquaculture. We saw varies species of starfish, sea urchins and even a seahorse. I remember when I was little I had seen smaller seahorses back at the San Antonio Zoo than the one I had seen today. I wonder what species it was? I was sad though because the seahorse was all by itself. I wish it had a buddy to at least have company with. After the tour of the live fish, we had a tour of dead fish. Some of these fish looked pretty weird and we even saw a little submarine. It wasn't meant for human use but rather for explorations in the deep sea by using a camera.

He has no tail :(

After lunch we headed to the Northeast Coast Intertidal Zone. This was very fun because we all got to look for sea creatures. Being in the coast made me want to go swimming  because it was just the right weather and the wind felt very nice. Jack mentioned on the sea rock that there was horizontal distribution. This means that as you go down the rock and up you can see various organisms such as red algae and then green algae on their own particular spot, inhabiting their own little niche.

We also found a sea urchin and at the very end Cynthia found a tiny little octopus. I wasn't able to get a picture because just as I was going to head over there, Jack told her it was poisonous so she let it go. It's better to be safe then sorry. On the bus ride back, we tried some type of jello. You would think that it would be good because jello is delicious but unfortunately it wasn't my cup of tea. Tomorrow we are leaving Taipei and headed to Shifen for Sky Laterns! I'm really excited for this and can't wait. I hope tommorrow will be like today, not too hot. Goodnight :)
